Match Commissioner Kweku Eyiah has confirmed that the assistant referee was hit with an object from the stands in Hearts of Oakââ¬â¢s 2-1 defeat to Hasaacas on Sunday.
The game played at the Accra Sports Stadium had to be put on hold over an extended period to allow for the injured assistant referee to be attended to by medics.
Hearts are however contesting reports that the missile that landed on the head of the assistant referee came from their supporters stand.
They even claim that no object was thrown at all and that the assistant referee might have suffered another form of injury.
But Match Commissioner Kweku Eyiah confirmed that the assistant referee was indeed struck by an unnamed object.
ââ¬ÅWhen he was hit by an object he had to be sent into the refereeââ¬â¢s room,â⬠Eyiah confirmed after the game.
ââ¬ÅHe had a cut but the cut wasnââ¬â¢t deep but then he said he was feeling dizzy.
ââ¬ÅSo we delayed the game to see if he could continue but then he couldnââ¬â¢t and therefore we had to replace him with the fourth referee.ââ¬
