Aduana Stars frustrated AshantiGold in Obuasi

Bright Adjei climbed out of the dug-out to score a stunning acrobatic finish to frustrate AshantiGold to a 1-1 draw with Aduana Stars in the Ghana Premier League at the Len Clay Stadium on Saturday.

In his words in the post-match interview Bashir Hayford - the AshantiGold head coach praised the former Tema Youth midfielder and describing his effort as spectacular.

Indeed Aduana were asking the questions but Yahaya Mohammed kept fluffing his lines until Adjei step into the game applied an eye-catching acrobatic finish from a Wahab Adams's cross in the nick of time.

Emmanuel Osei Baffour had given the lead to the Miners from a spot-kick which had doubts all around it.

Attacker Daniel Darkwa was assigned to a makeshift full-back role for the afternoon but he had a concealed venom. In one moment, the attacker broke free on the right, skirted away from Kadri Mohammed and tried an ambitious drive from the edge of the box. But Robert Dabuo cooled the shot before collecting at second attempt.

After Aduana had held the game tight and looked sure to end the first-half with a stalemate, referee Cecil Fletcher awarded a controversial penalty to the Miners. Fuseini Nuhu veered on the right with electrifying pace and delivered a crossfield ball to locate Frederick Quayson who had arrived inside the Aduana box.

Godfred Saka applied a twist of his shoulder to deflect the travelling ray of the ball but referee Fletcher adjudged him to have handled the ball. The protest from the former Right to Dream Academy graduate carried little weight.

Emmanuel Osei Baffour stepped up and planted a firm shot to the bottom left corner though Stephen Adams smelled the direction of his kick however he arrived late.

The Fire Club attempted to restore parity before the end of the halve but Noah Martey's audacious drive from the edge of the area missed narrowly.

AshantiGold started the second-half looking for the insurance goal to end the game as a contest but Cioaba Aristica's men defended gallantly.

Yahaya Mohammed was presented with a clean chance to level matters for the visitors but the former OGC Nice midfielder skied the ball from inside the box. Godfred Saka's visionary cross from the right found Yahaya and he sent the ball wide under pressure from the Miners defence.

Bashir Hayford withdrew Isaac Amoah and replaced him with the aerated Emmanuel Osei Carlos.

Yahaya Mohammed was presented with the best chance of the halve to level for Aduana but he unbelievably lost his focus, donating the ball to Hudu Yakubu while Martey and Elvis Opoku laid in waiting.

Bright Adjei came off the bench to replace Zakari Mumuni and scored a stunning bicycle-kick at the death.
