Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien says he fears club's talisman Eden Hazard could join Real Madrid next season.

The Belgian ace has constantly been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid following his superlative performances for the Blues.

And according to the Ghanaian ace, the Stamford Bridge outfit should tie down the 26-year-old to a new contract as soon as possible to ward off interest from the European champions.

Essien stated: “He could go to Real Madrid to win the Ballon d’Or easier.”

Hazard finished 19th in this year’s Ballon d’Or ranking but it is certainly a valid point from Essien that Hazard is likely to be eyeing the number one spot in the coming seasons.
