Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has capitalised on Albert Adomah's touchline celebration with him to wash away claims there was a problem between the two personalities at the Riverside.

Adomah, 27, stepped out of the dug-out on the hour mark to replace Italian Diego Fabbrini and he instantly assisted Uruguayan international Christian Stuani to restore side's lead after Danish international Lasse Vibe had cancelled Stuani's first-half opener.

Adomah then scored to cement the victory for the former Premier League campaigners and his celebration was a word to the Championship followers who had rumours he had a frosty relationship with manager Karanka.

The former Real Madrid trainer has insisted Adomah racing to celebrate with him on the touchline was a message to dispel all rumours about their relationship at the club.

"It was nice to celebrate, more for the people who thought we had some problems, because now that is clear that we don't," Karanka insisted in a post-match interview.

The Spanish gaffer then praised Adomah's performance on the night which helped secure them all the three points at stake and fire them to second spot in a five-point to catch leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

"We need players like Albert. And now I have another selection problem.

"He's with us and he knows how important he is to the team. He's a very good player, and today the team was different with him on the pitch."
