Richard Scudamore sent a letter to FIFA president Gianni Infantino raising concerns over a Club World Cup revamp.
Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said FIFA's proposed plan to revamp the Club World Cup (CWC) will lead to difficulties in scheduling the league and more injuries for the players.
A New York Times report suggests FIFA president Gianni Infantino requested to move ahead with a proposal to expand the current Club World Cup during last month's meeting in in Colombia, adding 12 European teams to the tournament.
Infantino also said that further discussions about the competition will be addressed during the next FIFA Council meeting scheduled for June in Moscow.
Scudamore has raised his concerns regarding the proposed changes to the tournament and, as reported by The Times, has written a letter to Infantino on the matter.
"A new competition in the summer, involving more teams, will bring only greater congestion and health concerns for clubs' players," he said. "FIFA itself has highlighted the international match calendar's congestion and lack of rest periods for players most in demand.
"To be presented with FIFA's 'solution' as a fait accompli and claim this to be consultation defies all definitions of best practice and good governance."
