Referees Yaw Ametepe, Ernest Baafi and Yakubu Nuhu Liman could face the wrath of the Referees Review Committee and be suspended following controversial decisions in the week 9 and 11 clashes of the Ghana Premier League.

The three referees who will appear before the Referees Review Committee of the Ghana Football Association this afternoon took some controversial decisions in the matches they handled will answer to a series of queries, mostly penalties.

Yakubu Nuhu Liman who officiated the Week 9 clash between Berekum Chelsea and Hearts of Oak at the Berekum Golden City Park came under huge criticisms with some controversial decisions which denied the visitors what could be described as a penalty when Patrick Razak was brought down in The Blues penalty area. Despite denying Hearts the penalty, the overall performance of the referee in the game questionable with some major decisions against the Phobians.

The Accra club lodged a formal complaint to the GFA and the committee will review the referee's performance today.

Another dubious officiating hit the league the same week when Liberty Professionals visited Elmina Sharks at the Dr. Ndoum Sports Stadium in Elmina. Ernest Baafi controversially denied the visiting side a clear penalty when striker Prosper Avor was whacked in the Elmina Sharks eighteen box with a few minutes to end the game.

The pregnant-like Kumasi-based referee, who could barely run in the game as he appeared limping, vehemently denied the visitors what was clearly a penalty and intimidatingly warned the victim of the attack to stand up and play. The players protested but he scared them with his authority.

Yaw Ametepe's drama at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium will not go unnoticed as he will also appear today to defend a dramatic controversial decision to deny Hearts a penalty.

Ametepe whistled for a spot kick when the ball hit the hand of AshGold defender Theophilus Amuzu but rescinded his decision after some few seconds when the home side players rushed on him. This dramatic decision brought the game to a halt for some minutes before finally play was resumed.

Many controversial decisions by referees have created chaotic instances that have marred the beauty of the game this season.

The three referee could face a minimum of eight-match suspension or be banned for the remainder of the season.
