REVEALED: Ghana Premier League MVP Eric Opoku snubbed GH120,000 Kotoko offer to renew AshGold contract because of CAF Champions League

Ghana Premier League Most Valuable Player for the 2014/15 leagues season Eric Opoku snubbed a hundred and twenty thousand Ghana cedis (GH120,000) offer from Kumasi Asante Kotoko to renew contract with Ashantigold, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.

Eric Opoku whose contract expired two months ago with the Aboakese lads renewed his contract for a year after declining to play for the Porcupine Warriors who were ready to spend on him.

Asante Kotoko had earlier stated that the club will not be signing any player above GH50,000 but resolved to break their bank for the Most Valubale Player in the Ghanaian League.

But sources close to the player disclosed to GHANAsoccernet.com that the player declined the offer to extend his stay with AshGold because of the CAF Champions League.

“It is obvious that when a club is participating in Africa, players always want to play there. We have players who are coming to Ashgold because of the CAF Champions League. So that was enough for Opoku,” the source disclosed.

“Kotoko’s offer was attractive because the player was a free agent but he considered a better offer after the Champions League than to stay in Ghana again next season.”
