REVEALED: Sports Ministry spent $8000 monthly on accommodation for Black Stars coaches

Ghana spent an estimated amount of GHC36,000 a month on only accommodation for Black Stars coaches, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has revealed.

At the National Sports Fund Consultation Forum in Accra on 14th December 2017, Hon. Isaac Asiamah, in his keynote address revealed that Ghana had been spending $8000 (equivalent to GHC36000) every month on accommodation for Black Stars coaches.

The Sports Minister who was explaining the rationale behind his outfit's bold step to secure an official residence for the Black Stars coach indicated that the country has continuously spent money on promotional activities and not development.

"When I realised that we're spending $8000 a month on accommodation for Black Stars coaches, I was overwhelmed, hence our decision to acquire an official residence for the national team coach to save the country the huge amount we have been pumping in," Hon. Isaac Asiamah said.

This means the Sports Ministry spent a total of GHC8,640,000 ($192000) on accommodation alone for former Ghana coach Avram Grant who lived in a hotel for his entire two-year stay in the country.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, has therefore, saved the country millions of cedis which were splashed on hotels for coaches of the Black Stars after securing an official accommodation to house the current coach and subsequent coaches.

Black Stars coaches will no longer stay in hotels anymore following the Isaac Asiamah-led ministry's initiative to find a lasting solution to the unending trouble.

Coach Kwasi Appiah will be the first to occupy it and has already inspected the facility which he is satisfied with.

The move by the MOYS to secure an official accommodation for the Black Stars coaches could save the country close to GHC9m and not GHC17.9m as reported to have been the total cost of housing former Ghana coach Avram Grant in his 2-year stint with the national team.

This will come as a massive relief to the Ghana Football Association who have been accused on numerous occasions for spending unwisely on the hotel bills of the senior national team coach.

The step taken by Hon. Isaac Asiamah means that the era of spending huge monies on hotels is over with the new dawn also expected to stomach other national team coaches.
