Samuel Afum is back in action for Young Boys in the Swiss Super League

Ghanaian attacker Samuel Afum watched his Uefa Europa League dreams crashed before him on Thursday evening as his Young Boys side suffered elimination from the competition following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Azerbaijan side Qarabag.

The former Hearts of Oak player, 24, came off the bench in the 54th minute to play for the Swiss Super League side but he could not make any real impact as they slipped to a big loss against the minnows.

Boys lost the first-leg 1-0 in Switzerland a fortnight ago and were hoping for better results in Thursday's game but the Azerbaijan champions cruised to a handsome victory over a weakened Boys side after they suffered an early numerical disadvantage after defender Steve von Bergen was sent off on the 4th minute mark.

Afum and his side dropped to the Uefa second-tier club competition after the failed to get the grades in the Champions League as they were eliminated by French giants AS Monaco.

The attacker joined Young Boys from Egyptian side FC Smouha in the 2012/13 season and has netted 9 times in 60 appearances for the club which competed for the Swiss title last season.
