Ghanaian attacker Samuel Afum saw his hopes of playing in the Uefa Champions League group stages evaporated on Tuesday night as his Young Boys Bern side suffered a 4-0 battering at the hands of French giants AS Monaco.

Young Boys - campaigners from the Swiss Super League, have crashed out of the competition following a humiliating 7-1 aggregate loss after succumbing to a 3-1 home defeat from the first-leg.

Ivan Cavaleiro and Milan loanee Stephan El Shaarawy scored on their home debuts for Monaco as last season's quarter-finalists eased through. Layvin Kurzawa and Anthony Martial were also on target for the Ligue 1 club.

Young Boys' Italian manager Uli Forte handed Afum a play in the starting line and the former Hearts of Oak attacker lasted the entire duration of the game but failed to shine in attack.

In other games, Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Kenny Tete was booked in the 82nd minute for Ajax Amsterdam as the Dutch giants allowed Austrian side Rapid Wien to claim a 3-2 away victory and qualify on a 4-3 aggregate. Tete played the entire minutes of the game.

Former Black Stars defender Francis Dickoh will play no further part in the competition as his FC Midtjylland allowed Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia to steal qualification on a away goal advantage after drawing 2-2.
