SASSUOLO, Defrel: \"I was close to Saint-Etienne. Playing for France? Hard, but who knows?\"

Interviewed by Le Parisien, 25-year old French forward Gregoire Defrel, establishing himself as a powerhouse for Sassuolo after a seesawing first season, resumed of his career's events: "I started at Parma as a youngster, and I was almost broke, money-wise. Then I joined Foggia, in Italian third-tier, and that was a useful experience, with small arenas, very demanding supporters, and all in all a hard environment. I was close to get back to France last summer, since Saint-Etienne wanted me, but in the end I decided to stay put at Sassuolo, and I'm happy about it. I debuted in Europa League, I'm improving a lot as a player, and I'm definitely fine with it. I'm proud of how we started, and I don't want to stop. National team? That would be I dream, but, when I see the kind of great forwards Bleus have, I laugh inside. But maybe I'll score enough to be on the ride, who knows?". Former Cesena player is currently on a deal with Neroverdi until June 2020.
