Former Ghana defender Shilla Illiasu has revealed he snubbed offers from giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The 28-year-old former Asante Kotoko and King Faisal centre-back joined Real Tamale United for the second round of the season after returning from a three-year lay-off.

His contract with Russian side FC Saturn was cancelled after failing to win the fitness battle.

He claims he was approached by the two biggest clubs in the country but opted to join his boyhood club to aid their dwindling fortune.

"Yes they approached me but I thought it wise to come and help a club that’s so much on heart," Illiasu told Radio Gold.

''I took the right decision and I don't regret it in any way. RTU is one of the biggest clubs in Ghana and so I’m happy to be here.''

Illiasu was the revelation at the 2006 World Cup in Germany where he toppled Samuel Osei Kuffour for the central defence slot.
