Sumaila joined Kotoko for Champions League football

Defender Rashid Sumaila says his decision to join Asante Kotoko was motivated by the prospect of playing in the CAF Champions League.

The 19-year-old sealed a season-long loan move to the Premier League champions on Monday for an undisclosed fee.

Sumaila, who is still on the books of Ebusua Dwarfs, was being courted by several clubs in and outside Ghana including giants Hearts of Oak who launched an official bid to sign him.

The Ghana international however chose to join the Kumasi-based club because of the attraction of playing in the continental showpiece being provided by Kotoko.

"A potential Champions League campaign lured me to accept Kotoko's offer," he said.

"It is every local player's dream to be in the African Champions League."

Sumaila joins a long list of big name signings to join Kotoko in the off-season ahead of their Premier League defence and their return to Africa next season.
