Defender Rashid Sumaila is desperate to be part of the final Ghana squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

With Yahaya Mohammed and Andre Ayew already dropping out of the provisional Black Stars squad through injury, there remain one more cut to be done to the now 24-man squad in the UAE camp.

It looks increasingly likely this cut will be made in the saturated central defensive area - putting the Asante Kotoko player at risk in the process.

But Sumaila prays he escapes coach Akwasi Appiah’s axe and makes the final Black Stars squad which hopes to end a 31-year wait for an African title in South Africa.

“My wish is to be part of the final 23-man squad and therefore I leave everything in the hands of God,” he said.

“The other (wish) is to be part of the team that will hopefully be bringing the Nations Cup back to Ghana.”

Sumaila is competing with the likes of Isaac Vorsah, Jonathan Mensah, John Boye, Jerry Akaminko and Awal Mohammed for a place in the final Ghana squad.
