Television Coverage of Kotoko-Medeama game scrapped

Published on: 05 January 2012

The scheduled television broadcast of the week 15 Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC has been cancelled.

The match which will be played on 15 January was supposed to have come off as the late kickoff game on SuperSports but the Premier League Board (PLB) has granted the request of television right holders Optimim Media Prime (OMP) not to telecast the match.

The decision was reached at a meeting between the two outfits following a resolution by OMP not to televise Kotoko matches again after its equipment and crew came under attack from irate fans during the match against Berekum Chelsea.

Until serious safety guarantees are made, coverage of Kotoko games as at now stands blacklisted.

Meanwhile, the cost of cables and other expensive equipments destroyed by the irate Kotoko fans are yet to be determined before the case is heard at the Ghana FA's Disciplinary Committee.

If found guilty, the Kumasi-based club will certainly be made to pay the costs while attracting other punishments per the rules and regulations governing the Premier League.
