Anthony Baffoe admits there was tension between Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah during their days with the Black Stars but says the problem was fueled by officials around the team at the time he describes as ââ¬ËHyenasââ¬â¢.
Baffoe was an integral member of the Ghana national team during his three-year stay with the Black Stars.
The ex Fortuna Dusseldorf defender was with the national team at the time the friction between Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah â⬓ the two big players in the Black Stars set up at the time â⬓ was said to be at its apex.
Tony Baffoe who is now into management after retiring from football now reveals officials he describes as Hyenas were responsible for the continued problems between the two heavyweights.
ââ¬ÅMaybe there was a clash of personalities but for me to experience the two of them [Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah] exchanging words and all that, no,â⬠he told Happy FM.
ââ¬ÅThose around them were even worse. I call them Hyenas.
ââ¬ÅThey go and tell Tony [Yeboah] something different about Abedi [Pele] and then come and tell Abedi something different about Tony.
ââ¬ÅThere might have been tension but later on things were solved. They now get along very well.
ââ¬ÅAbediââ¬â¢s wife, Maha and Tonyââ¬â¢s wife, Tasha where schoolmates.ââ¬
Many have attributed the Ghanaââ¬â¢s inability to win the Nations Cup and qualify for the World Cup despite their immense quality to the problems between the leading figures which brought about factions within the team.
The current generation of Black Stars players have enjoyed sustained unity which has been manifested in their three consecutive World Cup qualifications even though they fall short of winning the Nations Cup.
