Though they might be slightly newer to the world of international football, there are some amazing players from Ghana that are really proving their worth.
They’re doing so well this year and attracting the attention from other clubs, who can blame them though?
Karim Abdul Razak – Instrumental in clinching the win for Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations, this player is widely regarded as one of the top from the nation. Through his career he won 70 caps and 25 goals, with plenty of fantastic assists to boot. After the 1978 win for his home nation, he became one of the few Ghanaian footballers to take the African Player of the Year title too. He was quickly poached and moved overseas to become a player for the New York Cosmos and earned the title of Golden Boy.
- Michael Essien – As the most expensive African footballer of all time, this player really lived up to his salt. He cost a small fortune, more than the takings of a casino in fact but no one could have foreseen that he would sit out on the 2010 World Cup. Playing with passion nabbed him nominations for the Ballon d'Or as well as a number of African Football of the Year mentions.
- Abedi Pele – Gaining the nickname from the legend himself, Abedi Ayew was often compared to the Brazilian superstar. With 67 caps to his name and more nominations than we can list, he smashed his way through the world of African and international football. Though he didn’t become famous until a move to Marseilles really put him on the map, he remained a Ghanaian footballer at heart. The Champions League and Ligue 1 wins were this player’s greatest accolades but they weren’t his only ones. He came out as the third greatest African football player in a list from International Football Federation of History and Statistics. Even in the list of FIFA 100 players, he was the only one of Ghanaian origin to be featured, making him a stand out number one.
