Toyota Player of the Week: Jeonbuk's Kim Shin-wook

Published on: 01 October 2016

Kuala Lumpur: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors' Kim Shin-wook has been named the Toyota Player of the Week for the semi-final first leg of the 2016 AFC Champions League after playing a starring role as his team beat fellow Korea Republic side FC Seoul 4-1 in Jeonju.

The South Korean international earned his team a penalty in the 20th minute after being fouled in the box, leaving teammate Leonardo to send the goalkeeper the wrong way for the opener.

Kim then turned provider three minutes later, playing a neat one-two with Ricardo Lopes as the latter doubled Jeonbuk's advantage.

The 28-year-old was not done yet as he provided the icing on the cake, shooting home from the left corner of the penalty area to restore the hosts' three goal advantage seven minutes from time.

He ultimately completed 19 out of 31 passes on the night, winning nine duels to register a 7.7 rating as Jeonbuk put one foot in the final ahead of the second leg in Seoul next month.

Al Ain forward Douglas was also on the scoresheet for his team this week, heading them into the lead en route to a 3-1 win over El Jaish in their semi-final first leg encounter.

The Brazilian import registered an astonishing 100% passing rate as the hosts made the most of their 54% ball possession. He also won 3 duels to rack up a 7.6 rating and outright second place in this week's rankings.

Douglas' compatriots Ricardo Lopes and Leonardo took up the next two spots with identical 7.4 ratings, as the Jeonbuk pair ran riot against Seoul.

Forward Ricardo Lopes scored one goal and assisted another while Leonardo added a second goal and Jeonbuk's third with a deft stooping header five minutes before halftime.

They were joined by Al Ain midfield maestro Omar Abdulrahman, who was ever-present in his side's win against El Jaish with yet another sterling display in the middle of the park.

The United Arab Emirates playmaker had a hand in all his sides' goals, scoring one and assisting the other two as he pulled the strings from midfield.

Omar's set piece goal, Al Ain's second, was the pick of the bunch on the night, as his 25-yard effort curled and dipped over the defensive wall to give El Jaish goalkeeper Khalifa Ababacar no chance of saving it.
