What the Ghana Premier League match day two taught us
Sekondi Hasaacas hammered Techiman City FC

More Misery for Aduana, Sushi football getting better with time.

At the Esipong Stadium the much troubled Hasaacas got their season back on track getting the upper hand of Techiman City in a 6 goals thriller.

The Do boys went into week 2 rooted at the bottom of the league log having lost 3-0 at Wa in the opening week. It didn’t take long for Hasaacas to take the lead with Amos Korankye scoring a freak freekick goal in the 7th minute. 6 minutes later attacker Richmond Opoku had a chance to double Hasaacas’ lead but he wasted the it.

Hasaacas were by far the dominant side of the two. It was no surprise they won back to back penalties within the space of 4 minutes. Daniel Egyin missed the first one in the 36th minute but Eric Bekoe scored the 2nd one to double their lead heading into recess. Few minutes into the 2nd half the 2007/08 GHPL goal king looked to have sealed victory for the ‘Giant Of The West’ with a beautiful freekick goal sending the Stadium into a frenzy mode.

Leading comfortably at home , Coach Yusif Basigi withdrew 2 goal hero Eric Bekoe and that,  coupled with Techiman City’s ‘never give up’ attitude nearly caused Hasaacas the 3points.

Man Of The Match Roger Nortey pulled a goal back for The Real Citizens hitting a bullet of a shot pass Owu from a Baba Mahama assist . In the 64 minute Baba Mahama made it 3-2. Striker Issaka Ibrahim had every chance to complete the comeback for the away side but his lob over Veteran goalkeeper George Owu hit the goal post sending shivers down the spines of the teaming home fans. If Yusif Basigi got the Bekoe substitution wrong he did right his wrong as Papa Arko another of his 2nd half sub sealed victory for the Do boys in added time heading home a cross from Samuel Afful. This 4-2 victory means finally the media in the twin city will have positive news to discuss about their beloved club.

Glorious Hearts Of Oaks finally beats Medeama at Tarkwa. The Phobia boys before Sunday had never tasted a victory in Tarkwa  against Medeama SC.  The Home side started the game the better side of the two dominating the midfield with the energy of Malik Akowuah and Akwasi Donsu technique at display. The Yellow&Mauves failed to translate their dominance into goals with the first half ending in a stalemate.

Hearts returned from recess an improved side matching the midfield play of Medeama. Their positive play was rewarded in the 77th minute. Eric Kumi picked Cosmos Dauda  with a pass, the attacker who came on for injured Samuel Yeboah first nicked the ball over on-rushing defender Paul Aidoo, raced towards Medeama’s goal and calmly slotted  the ball with his left foot pass goal keeper Muntari Tagoe. The game was put to bed in added time with winger Eric Kumi scoring a half volley to end Hearts’ Tarkwa voodoo. With a goal and an assist to his name the phobia fans will pardon Kumi for getting a silly 2nd yellow card when he took off his jersey to celebrate his goal. Medeama SC who are noted for their early season form are now without a point after two games going into another difficult game in week 3 against Asante Kotoko. Coach Kenichi Yastsuhashi’s “sushi” football has so far been a success with 2 wins out of 2 games and now 2nd on the league table

At the Nana Agyemang Badu Park high flying Wa Allstars deepened the woes of Aduana Stars. The Dormaa based club were expected to put behind them last week’s defeat and get back to winning ways but Wa Allstars proved very stubborn as they returned to Wa with all 3 points courtesy a late goal from Kofi Yeboah. The result means Aduana Stars, a club tipped to win the league are the first on the log but when counting from the bottom.

Liberty Professional got back to winning ways at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman. The Scientific Soccer lads took an early lead via a Kingsley Kissi own goal in the 7th minute. Playmaker Latif Blessing made it 2-0 in the 13th minute. Back from recess Fredrick Boateng pulled a goal back for ‘ Eleven Is To One’ but it wasn’t enough as Inter Allies returned to Tema empty handed.

WAFA after their impressive display against Kotoko last week went to Berekum hoping to dazzle the home crowd and pick another win. They did dazzled the packed Berekum Park crowd but former Ghana U17 striker Sadick Adams made sure all the 3 points remained in Berekum scoring the only goal in the game for Chelsea.

The dreams of Dreams FC is still on course with two wins from 2 games, 2 goals and 2 clean sheets. For the 1st time in 12 years, Premier League football returned to the Dawu Park with Dreams FC entertaining Bechem United. The away side frustrated Dreams for almost the entire first half but that didn’t stop dreams from living their dream. Ben Nash Quansah got the all important goal 4 minutes to end the first half. The 41st minutes strike was enough to secure all 3 points for Dreams.

Earlier on Friday New Edubiase United inflicted another defeat on Ebusua Dwarfs. Fuseini Zubeiru’s goal separated the two sides in a an uninspiring game that left Dwarfs coach J.E Sarpong frustrated with his club fortune getting worse with each passing week. They now face a daunting task in their next fixture against a resurgent Hearts Of Oaks next week.

Asante Kotoko’s game with Ashanti Gold was postponed due to the latter’s CAF Champions League qualifier against M.O Bejaia at Algeria. Eric Osei’s away goal proved to be only a consolation with the miners losing 3-1 after the 1st league ended 1-0. Better luck to them next time.
