Lesotho coach Leslie Notsi has exposed the long-held suspicion of a Southern African conspiracy against Ghana, tipping Zambia to qualify for the last round of the 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifiers ahead of the Black Stars.
The loud-mouthed coach says the Chipolopolo qualification to the playoffs ahead of Ghana will boost football in the Southern African region, clearly indicating his soft spot for Zambia.
Notsi vowed to make things difficult for Ghana on Sunday when the two sides clash in 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier in Maseru even though he ensured Zambia had a walk in the park when they met the Crocodiles over the weekend as the Chipolopolo won 4-0.
Notsi said in an interview in Ndola on Saturday night that the Chipolopolo is the strongest team in Group D when the evidence of the results so far in the group points to the opposite..
“The Zambian team is strong. I have no doubt that Zambia will qualify to the last round of the qualifiers. Continue supporting your team,†Notsi said.
Notsi said Zambia’s qualification to the World Cup will be good for the whole of southern African , according to the report in the Zambia.
He said the 0-4 loss to Zambia was a learning process but Notsi said the Likuena will play for pride when they face Ghana.
He said it is not easy for visiting teams to win at Setsotho Stadium in Maseru.
“We will be playing for pride and we will not want to lose in front of our fans at our backyard. We will make it difficult for Ghana. It will be pride at stake,†Notsi said.
He said the Likuena are eager to record the first win in the qualifying series.
“The nation (Lesotho) has to be happy on Sunday,†Notsi said.
Zambia are leaders in Group D after four matches in the group with ten points, one better than Ghana. But the Chipolopolo top the group thanks to a protest they won against Sudan.
Ghana have shown they are much better as they won 3-1 in Sudan - a venue the Chipolopolo were beaten 2-0 before they launched their protest claiming the Nile Crocodiles fielded an ineligible player.
While Ghana could manage a 7-0 home win over Lesotho Zambia could only beat them 4-0 which makes the Black Stars the better of the two sides.
Chipolopolo have also got a poor away record as they have not been able to win away from home in the qualifiers.
