2021/22 Ghana Premier League: Week 27 Match Preview - AshantiGold vs. Berekum Chelsea

Published on: 30 April 2022

AshantiGold SC will be back at home this weekend to face Berekum Chelsea at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi after back-to-back away matches in the Ghana Premier League.

The Miners prevailed in the consecutive away games having drawn with Aduana Stars in Dormaa Ahenkro and beating Great Olympics in Accra.

AshantiGold are presently on a three matches unbeaten run where they have scored 7 goals and conceded none in process including a 6-0 thrashing of WAFA SC.

The Gold and Black outfit will move into the top half of the standings if they beat Chelsea in the matchweek 27 match on Sunday. They are 10th on table at the moment.

Winger Yaw Annor will be gunning for Player of the Month for April after scoring 4 goals in 4 games and won two MVP awards.

Annor will be hoping to start the new month with another impressive display this Sunday against the Bibires. He has 12 league goals in the entire season.

Thomas Duah is having a full compliment of his squad to tackle Chelsea with Appiah McCarthy set for his first home game after one-and-half years out with an injury.

Chelsea have been blowing it hot and cold this campaign but have lost only two of their last 16 league games having recorded 7 wins and 7 draws in the process.

This is a decent run of form the Bibires can be counting on as they trek to Obuasi to face AshantiGold on Sunday.

Chelsea have a top four finish in their sights and a win or draw from the Len Clay Stadium will cushion them in their pursuit. They are 6th on the league standings.

They can jump to the 3rd position by managing a victory over the Miners but their recent record in Obuasi makes it a difficult task to achieve.

The Bibires have managed just a single win in their 12 visits to AshantiGold in the premiership which was a 1-0 victory on January 18, 2020. They have lost 5 and drew 6 in the other games.

Solomon Odwo continues to lead the team from the dugout since a substantive coach hasn't been hired.

Chelsea are without first choice goalkeeper Gregory Obeng Sekeyere because of his involvement in the Ghana U20 preparations for the 2022 WAFU Cup of Nations.
