Two second-half goals helped Senegal beat nine-man Cape Verde 2-0 in the round of 16 at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Sadio Mane scored the first goal soon after the island nation were reduced to 10 men as their goalkeeper Vozinha was dismissed following a nasty clash of heads with the Liverpool forward.

The goal though had to be approved by VAR, but Mane was led off the field before the game restarted due to suspected a concussion

His replacement Bamba Dieng added the second in injury time with a low effort, punishing the Cape Verdeans who had pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Cape Verde midfielder Patrick Andrade had been shown a straight red card midway through the first half.

The match in Bafoussam was preceded by a minute's silence for the victims of the Olembe Stadium stampede on Monday night.

The 2019 runners-up will face either Mali or Equatorial Guinea in the last eight on Sunday.
