2022 World Cup: Ghana considering Jeffery Schlupp's return to Black Stars for Qatar tournament

Published on: 21 August 2022

Crystal Palace ace player Jeffrey Schlupp is likely to return to the Black Stars for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

The Black Stars' technical team, led by Otto Addo, is considering reintroducing Schlupp into the squad because they strongly believe the versatile player has a lot to offer the team.

Schlupp is one of Ghana's most consistent players abroad, appearing on a regular basis and frequently impressing, but his national team career has been less than stellar.

Schlupp hasn't represented the Black Stars since September 2021.

Earlier this year, he was left out of the squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and missed the final round of 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Premier League champion was also left out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central African Republic as well as the Kirin Cup.

Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng on Saturday was at Selhurst Park to watch the midfielder, who can also play as a forward and left back.

Schlupp is expected to be recalled for the friendly against Brazil in September.

Schlupp was one of three players dropped as Ghana named their final 2014 World Cup squad. He was included in the Black Stars' preliminary 26-man squad but didn’t impress then coach Kwesi Appiah.
