ACL MD5 - Group F: FC Seoul v Buriram United preview

Published on: 19 April 2016

Seoul: Coach Choi Yong-soo has called upon Korea Republic’s FC Seoul to secure top spot in Group F of the AFC Champions League with victory over Thailand’s Buriram United at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Wednesday.

Free-scoring 2015 FA Cup winners FC Seoul will qualify for the last 16 for a fourth consecutive season at the top of Group F with victory over a Buriram side they beat 6-0 in Thailand at the start of the campaign.

A draw would also be enough to advance, although should China’s Shandong Luneng also draw with Japan’s Sanfrecce Hiroshima, 2013 finalists FC Seoul would also progress at the top of the table.

“It is true that we are in a good position. We haven't, however, achieved anything yet,” said Choi, who will be without midfielder Ju Se-jong due to suspension.

“Anything can happen in football and we will be focused and look to show our best form.”

FC Seoul are currently unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions and currently sit three points clear at the top of the K-League Classic table after beating Suwon Samsung Bluewings 3-0 at home on Saturday.

Choi’s side won their first three games of the AFC Champions League campaign before sharing a goalless draw at home to Shandong earlier this month, with the Chinese Super League side currently three points adrift in second place heading into the penultimate round of fixtures.

“The games are coming thick and fast at the moment. but there is a good atmosphere in the squad and we are feeling good," added Choi.

“We want to confirm first place in front of our own fans. We have prepared well and are ready for the game."

Buriram arrived in Korea at the bottom of Group F and unable to qualify for the last 16 following four consecutive defeats having conceded 14 goals and scored none.

“We know that Seoul are a strong team and in good form.” said Buriram coach Alexandre Gama, who will be without Brazilian striker Kaio due to suspension.

“We have come here to do our best and nobody knows what the result will be.

“The Thailand league is developing and I hope that we can show some of that when the game starts.”
