Andre Ayew handed number 10 jersey for AFCON

Influential Ghana winger Andre Ayew will wear the revered number 10 jersey at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.

Andre, second son of African football legend Abedi Pele has taken up the jersey which was relinquished by Udinese man Kwadwo Asamoah in December.

Asamoah cited personal reasons in a letter written to the Ghana Football Association relinquishing the jersey number.

However, Andre whose father wore the number 10 jersey throughout his international career has opted to wear the number 10 jersey at the 2012 Nations Cup.

If he excels, the 22-year-old is likely to wear the jersey during his international career.

Kwadwo Asamoah who abandoned the number 10 will wear number 20.

Ghanasoccernet.com can reveal that youngsters Mohammed Abu and Massawudu Alhassan will wear the number 23 and 14 respectively.

Samuel Inkoom will wear 7 while John Pantsil takes his favourite number 4. Midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu will stick to the number 8 jersey.
