Asamoah Gyan to stay a Sunderland player - Steve Bruce

Published on: 08 July 2011

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says it would take a 'wonder bid' for the club to part company with £13m striker Asamoah Gyan this summer.

But the revelation by the Black Cats boss is indications that if they get the right cash for the Ghana international they will allow him to go.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Wearside, with Tottenham Hotspur and Zenit St Peterburgh among the clubs reportedly interested.

Gyan’s agent Fabian Pivateau said this week that he is aware a club has tabled an offer to sign the Ghana striker from Sunderland but Bruce says there is no offer yet.

"I haven't had a telephone conversation with any agent, no offer from any club," Bruce told BBC Newcastle.

"He's going nowhere unless we get a wonder bid that comes out of nowhere."

Bruce added: "As far as I'm concerned I'm looking forward to seeing Gyan being ready for the Premier League better than what he was last year.

"I think he'll be better, he knows what to expect and I'm expecting big things from him."

Ghana international Gyan scored 11 goals in 33 games for Sunderland, following his £13m move from French club Rennes in August 2010.
