Atalanta pull clear on top of Serie A’s scoring charts

Published on: 20 January 2019

No team in Serie A has scored as many goals as Atalanta this year, with striker Duvan Zapata playing a key role in La Dea’s successes to this point.

Juventus and Napoli, first and second in the Serie A standings, have played one game less than Atalanta but have 38 and 37 goals respectively, while Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have scored 44.

Roma, with 37, and Sampdoria, with 35, are not far behind, but Atalanta have not stopped scoring as they are seventh in the table, level on points with AC Milan in sixth and only one point behind Lazio in fifth; they are two points behind Roma, who occupy the last Champions League position.

One key contributor with regard to goals is Zapata, who has 13 in his last seven Serie A appearances. On Sunday he became the first Atalanta player to score four goals in one Serie A match since 1952 as his side won 5-0 away at Frosinone.
