Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal: Back to the day job for the hosts

Published on: 23 February 2020

It's back to normal for Atletico Madrid on Sunday after their brilliant win over Liverpool in the Champions League.

Fellow top four rivals Villarreal travel to the Wanda Metropolitano looking to overtake Diego Simeone's side in the table.

Despite their heroic Champions League victory, Los Rojiblancos aren't in great form in LaLiga Santander.

They've won just one of their last five league outings but will be boosted by a battling draw at Valencia last weekend.

Simeone will be without the injured Thomas Lemar, so Vitolo, who replaced the Frenchman against Liverpool, is expected to start on the left of midfield.

As for those returning to the squad, Joao Felix and Diego Costa could make their returns from injury in a league fixture.

Costa played his first game after a couple of months out against Liverpool.

Villarreal come into this match off the back of three wins in their last four games and they will benefit from the return of Pau Torres from injury.

The youngster will play alongside Raul Albiol at the back, coming in for Ramiro Funes Mori.
