Barcelona and Man Utd want to close De Jong transfer before Thursday

The Frenkie de Jong operation is reaching its final phase. SPORT revealed on Saturday that an agreement between Barcelona and Manchester United is advanced and The Times add that both clubs are trying to close an agreement before Thursday, the final day of June. According to this information, the agreement is almost in place and the English club are focused on agreeing on a five-year deal with the player in case a fee is agreed.

Conversations are on the right path. Barça have always been open to selling De Jong but never for less than €80m. The Blaugrana wanted most of that, if not all of it, to be fixed, while United wanted to include easily attainable add-ons. It seems Barça will pocket around €80m, a big boost for the club's accounts.

De Jong has always been reluctant to leave Barça and will have to give the green light to United for the move to happen, but both clubs believe he will if they reach a deal. The midfielder has doubts about joining a team not in the Champions League, but has seen his role at Barça won't be the same and that they consider him dispensable. At United, he will lead the project.
