Bayana Bayana arrive to a rapturous welcome in South Africa

The Bayana Bayana of South Africa arrived to a rapturous welcome on Monday following a good Africa Women's Cup of Nations in Ghana. 

South Africa finished runners up to Nigeria after losing 4-3 in the dreaded penalty shootout after the match had ended 0-0 in regulation time including 30 minutes of extra time.

The Desiree Ellis-coached side arrived to a thunderous hero’s welcome at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday, 2 December 2018 where they were met by among others the Ministers of Sport, MEC Faith Mazibuko, SAFA President and several NEC members.

Coach Ellis and her delegation leaves for France on Thursday, 6 December 2018 for the FIFA Women’s World Cup draw which takes place on Saturday, 8 December 2018.

Banyana Banyana together with Nigeria and Cameroon are the African representatives for the showpiece scheduled for France next year.

Forward Chrestinal Thembi Kgatlana was named played of the tournament. She also finished the competition's top scorer with five goals in five games.
