Black Stars winger Christian Atsu who announced his departure from Newcastle this month is close to securing a deal with a club in Saudi Arabia, according to a local media report.

The 29-year-old has been approached by Saudi Arabian Pro League side Al Raed FC who are desperate to land his signature to improve their squad.

It is said talks between the club and the representatives Alpha Sports Management have been very positive, with the Raed FC confident of the deal being sealed soon.

With his contract due to expire on July 1, Atsu announced he will not be staying at the Premier League club after enduring a difficult 2020-21 season.

Newcastle coach Steve Bruce said before the start of the season that Atsu wasn’t part of his plans and true to his words, the winger made just a single appearance – a late substitute in Carabao Cup second-round victory against Blackburn.

Initially, Atsu wasn't included in the Premier League squad but the manager made a u-turn in the second round but still, the Ghana international didn’t play.

Atsu will officially become a free agent on July 1.
