Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has denied the accusation of mucking England around and forging ahead with plans for switching nationality to play for Ghana.
The midfielder, whose father is a former Ghana international, has been at the centre of a battle between England and Ghana with the latter keen on getting him to switch nationality to play for the Black Stars.
The Chelsea player can switch nationality to play for the Black Stars because his parents are from the West African country and heightened talks of such move by snubbing call-ups to the England U21 squad.
He opted to train at Chelsea instead of to play for England under 21s and also spent him time in Ghana where he met several high-ranking officials including the country's President.
His actions have angered several England supporters who accused him of choosing the matches he would play for the country despite several invitations.
In the wake of the English attacks, Hudson-Odoi insists his decision to miss his place in the under 21s was about getting back in Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel's good books to prove he's fit for Gareth Southgate's senior team.
"I didn't not go to England because I thought I was bigger than them or I was being big time or anything like that," he told the Daily Mail.
"It was just me trying to get back into the team in Chelsea and focusing on club football as much as possible: to be a regular player, an option to always play and be involved.
"People thought: 'Oh, he's being big time or arrogant'. Or he's being somebody he shouldn't be. I'm not that person at all.
"I'm not big time. I'm not cocky. I'm very humble. I'm very relaxed. I was always thinking to myself: 'What's best for me in this moment'?
"For me, it was more of a fact that I wanted to stay back and try to get into the team and work as much as possible and show the manager what I'm capable of.
"I was like: 'Sit back, don't make a scene, don't make any problems with England'. I'm good with all the coaches there. I have no problems with any of them. If it [an Under 21 call-up] came again, who knows?"
He could still choose to play for Ghana in the future, since all his caps for senior team won earlier than the age 21 wont be counted if he decides to switch nationality.
