Di Francesco: Referee’s decisions changed the game against Atalanta

Sassuolo coach Eusebio Di Francesco believes the referee in the match with Atalanta made some wrong decisions which changed the outcome of the game.

It ended 1-1 on Saturday evening with the Neroverdi being denied an opener early on before Domenico Berardi scored, but German Denis converted from the penalty spot later.

“The match was decided by Denis’ penalty,” Di Francesco told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“We must not forget that we had a goal disallowed, it was not offside.

“These two decisions wrongly changed the game.”

Di Francesco is determined to put this behind them, however, as their next match is a clash with Roma on Tuesday night.

“We have to be good to put aside the bitterness and look ahead,” he said.

Despite the wrong decisions, Di Francesco was pleased with what he saw in the squad after the 2-0 loss to Bologna last week.

“I am pleased with the team’s performance [against Atalanta] following our loss to Bologna,” he said.

Sassuolo currently sit in seventh place in the Serie A league table.
