Eduardo Camavinga joins Real Madrid on six-year deal

Real Madrid have finally confirmed the arrival of France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes on a permanent six-year deal.

The Spanish giants have been chasing Camavinga ever since he made his debut in 2019 and had been expected to land the teenager last summer, only for COVID-19 to hinder their spending in the transfer market.

Camavinga had attracted interest from a number of sides this summer as he entered the final 12 months of his contract, but Real managed to fight their way to the front of the queue and took to their official website to confirm a deal had been reached - he's signed a contract until 2027.

He joins the club to compete for minutes with Casemiro at the base of Carlo Ancelotti's midfield, but fans can also expect to see Camavinga deployed in a more advanced role at times.

The 18-year-old, who managed 88 appearances for Rennes, becomes Real's second signing of the summer after David Alaba, and the first player for whom Real have paid a fee since Ferland Mendy joined the club in the summer of 2019.

While COVID-19 may have impacted their spending, a large part of Real's reluctance to shell out came from their desire to save up and move for another Frenchman, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

Real failed with bids of €160m and €180m for Mbappe, who has also entered the final 12 months of his contract, and are now likely to wait until January to try and sign the young forward on a free transfer.

PSG are hopeful of convincing Mbappe to sign an extension and put an end to all the speculation, but they face an uphill battle to persuade the Frenchman to remain at the Parc des Princes.
