Ex-Ghana international Yussif Alhassan Chibsah has paid glowing tribute to legendary striker Opoku Afriyie who died on Sunday in Kumasi.
Chibsah revealed Afriyie played a key role in his transfer from King Faisal to city rivals Asante Kotoko where he later became captain of the Porcupine Warriors.
He also spoke about how the two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner helped embolden him as a senior international.
Chibsah claims his tips helped him have a successful reign as Ghana U23 captain during the All African Games and also at the 2004 Athens Olympics .
He wrote in his Twitter page: ''OPOKU AFRIYIE, aka “BAYIE”, aka “NII OPOKU”. I ll never 4get ur role in finalizing my transfer from K. Faisal to Kotoko. U were the only person Alhaji Grunsah listened to. I can’t also 4get how u guided me as the captain of Black Meteors from qualifiers tru All African Games ...
''in Abuja to Olympic Games in Athens. I can’t also 4get ur guidance at Black Stars after my promotion from the U23. The last time u and I spoke was about 3 months ago when I sent you Kotoko STRIKE replica jerseys. May ur gentle soul RIP. We have indeed lost a great one. #legend.''
