Ex Nigeria striker Nwankwo Kanu has been defrauded to the tune of $104m by workers of his hotel.

Managing director of Hardley Suites Hotel in Lagos, Ayoola Gam Ikon was arrested and charged for allegedly defrauding Hardley Suites Hotel which belongs to the former national star.

Ikon alongside another hotel staff Oke Samuel have been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate's court on a 19-count charge of felony to wit, obtaining money under false pretence.

The two are alleged to have colluded to divert allocated funds for the expansion of existing facilities of the hotel based in Lagos to personal use between 2005 and 2012.

The duo are also alleged to have forged documents purportedly made by the board of directors of the hotel to obtain loans of N187 million, N50 million and N493 million from Skye Bank Plc without authorization.

The Prosecution say the accused have contravened sections 8 (a) 1 (a) of the advanced fee fraud and other fraud related offences Act 2006 as applicable in Lagos State.

The development comes at a time when more and more African stars in Europe are being encouraged to channel their incomes into investments in their respective countries.

Mayor of Mbombela, Catherine Dhlamini urged Black Stars players to invest their monies into developing their nation during the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.

“Whatever little money that you get there, please come back to Africa and invest,” she said.

“I am not talking about big investment. The house that you build at homes means development in Africa.

“So we are looking upon you, you are our future leaders. Please do remember that Africa needs development and we are depending on you.”
