Ghana born former Germany international Gerald Asamoah has joined Bundesliga II side Greuther Fuerth.

Asamoah, 33, moves on a free transfer and will see his contract expire 30 June 2012.

The 43-times capped Asamoah is out of contract since summer after no longer being wanted at Schalke.

He last played on loan at St Pauli in the German top flight last season.

"Gerald will help us realise our big dream," Fuerth coach Mike Bueskens told Sky TV. "He can help us with his experience."

Fuerth currently lie second behind Fortuna Duesseldorf and could secure qualification to the elite division if they maintain their position at the end of the season.

The two top finishers qualify directly for the Bundesliga, the third-placed team has a playoff tie against the third-bottom Bundesliga side.
