Ghana miss out on US friendly after raid

Published on: 14 December 2010

Ghana hopes of playing the United States in a friendly next year have been dashed because of the police raid carried out on the federation.

The Black Stars were discussing the friendly last week before anti-graft agent raided the Ghana Football Association seeking computers and documents.

The police raid led to the closing down of the GFA’s offices which meant not administrative work could be carried out.

The federation’s officials were hoping to conclude the deal on the day the raid was carried out so the Americans opted to play Egypt.

The United States will visit Egypt for a football friendly against the reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions on 9 February in Cairo, the same day the game with Ghana had been scheduled.

The Black Stars will have to seek another opponent for the date which has been scheduled by FIFA for international friendlies.
