Ghanaian forward Kwesi Appiah scored for Crawley Town in their 6-1 hammering by Charlton Athletic in the EFL Trophy competition.

The Ghana International joined the English fourth-tier side in the summer on a free transfer after a brief spell in India with Super League side NorthEast United.

Goals from Josh Davison (6), Corey Blackett-Taylor (18) and Elliot Lee (22) gave Charlton Athletic a blistering start.

It remained 3-0 until the 54th minute before a George Francomb own goal made it 4-0 to the home side.

Kwesi Appiah scored his goal from the penalty spot after Sam Ashford was fouled on 75 minutes to pull one back for the Reds.

Mason Burstow and Davison scored the fifth and sixth goal respectively to secure the win for Charlton Athletic.

The Reds are in the Southern Group G with League One side, Leyton Orient and Southampton u21s.

The experienced Ghanaian forward before his Asia move had scored 14 goals in 72 appearances during three years with AFC Wimbledon.
