Greuther Fürth forward Jamie Leweling defends himself against ‘dubious’ penalty won in victory over Würzburger Kickers

German-born Ghanaian forward Jamie Leweling says he felt a touch after going down in the box to win Greuther Furth a penalty in the victory over Würzburger Kickers.

The teen sensation was impeded by Kickers goalkeeper Hendrik Bonmann in the 79th minute with the resulting penalty expertly converted by Branimir Hrgota to hand Greuther Furth a 3-1 victory.

However, the striker has been criticized by the opposing team, with others blaming him for dubiously earning an advantage for his team.

"In the situation I felt a touch on my right foot," said Leweling to SPORT1. "This contact made me stumble. In the end, the video referee confirmed it after evaluating the pictures and decided on penalties."

"Sure, if I look at the pictures again in slow motion, the situation is controversial."

Former Greuther Furth player and Morocco international Rachid Azzouzi has jumped to the defense of the young forward.

“The swallow allegation does not apply. The pictures do not reveal beyond any doubt that Jamie was not hit,” said Azzouzi.

"Jamie has been with us since we were young. I got to know him that way, he's a player who doesn't do things like that."
