Guardiola: It's good for football that Zidane has won what he has won

Pep Guardiola has made clear that football has benefited from Zinedine Zidane's achievements as Real Madrid head coach.

Ahead of the game against Manchester City, the Frenchman recalled his trip to Germany to follow Guardiola's training sessions with Bayern Munich.

"The honour was ours that [Zidane] came to Munich to see us," Guardiola said.

"He had just started coaching and it was an honour that one of the best players in the history came there.

"Since then, he has done what he thought.

"He represents our profession very well.

"It is good for football that someone like Zidane has had the success he has had."

Zidane labelled Guardiola as the best coach in the world, but the Catalan tactician insisted that not many can win three Champions League trophies in a row.

"I am not the best in the world; the artists are the players," he added.

"I never pretended to be the best.

"What Zidane did in Europe can't be repeated.

"That shows the magnitude of this team.

"It's impossible to compete with them outside the pitch due to their history, but we try to do it inside.

"Every player who comes here knows that he must win the Champions League."

Guardiola will return to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday and he recalled his best moment at his rivals' stadium.

"It's a pleasure coming back to this stadium, which is one the greatest," he noted.

"It's an honour and we have to enjoy it.

"I lost many times here as a player.

"My best memory is winning the league in 2009, not because we won 6-2, but because we won the league."
