German born Ghanaian defender Stephan Ambrosius recovered from COVID-19 to play a vital role in Hamburg SV's win against Wurzburger Kickers in the Bundesliga II on Saturday.

The 21-year-old lasted the entire duration of Hamburg's 3-1 victory over their opponents at the Volksparkstadion.

Ambrosius tested positive after returning from international duty with the German U-21 team.

He spent ten days in quarantine, bouncing back strongly to play a commanding role in a three man defence for Hamburg.

Lars Dietz put Wuzburgers into the lead on 40 minutes, but a strong second half performance by Hamburg saw them claw back to secure victory.

Simon Terode netted a brace before a last minute strike from Tim Leiboid sealed victory.

Other German born Ghanaian players to feature in the game were Gideon Jung and Jan Gyamerah.
