OFFICIAL - Man United announce Ralf Rangnick as interim manager

Published on: 29 November 2021

Manchester United has a new manager. According to official information from the club, Ralf Rangnick will take over the helm as head coach on an interim basis until the end of the season. The 63-year-old is giving up his position as Managing Director Sport & Communication at Lokomotiv Moscow after around four months. Rangnick succeeds Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was dismissed about a week ago.

Under the Norwegian, the team around superstar Cristiano Ronaldo fell to eighth place in the Premier League and is twelve points behind leaders Chelsea. United has already qualified for the last sixteen of the Champions League.

"I am very happy to come to Manchester United and I am determined to make this season a successful one for the club," said Rangnick in the club release. "The squad is full of talent and a good mix of youth and experience. For the next six months, I'll be fully focused on helping these players reach their potential, both individually and - and most importantly - as a team. "

Following his role as interim coach, Rangnick will continue to work in an advisory capacity in Manchester for two years. It is quite possible that the former RB director will follow in Ed Woodward's footsteps in terms of decision-making power. The vice chairman of the board of directors is leaving United at the end of the year and usually had the last word on transfer decisions.
