Kerr hat-trick creates new NWSL milestone

Published on: 09 July 2018

The current AFC Women's Player of the Year started the match against former club Sky Blue FC with 48 NWSL goals to her name and finished it with 51, after scoring all three goals in a 3-1 win that takes her Chicago Red Stars team to second on the table.

The star forward, who was assisted by Japan's Yuki Nagasato for her second and third efforts, has now reached a half-century of goals in both the NWSL and Australia's W-League.

The milestone is the latest in a string of personal achievements for the 24-year-old, who has claimed the most recent Most Valuable Player awards in both the US and Australian leagues, been voted the Young Australian of the Year and been named Asia's best female player at the AFC Annual Awards in Bangkok last November.

Kerr will be back in international action on July 26 when Australia take on Brazil in the US-based Tournament of Nations, which also features the United States and Japan.

The Matildas, looking to retain the inaugural title they won last year, will meet AFC Women's Asian Cup champions Japan in a rematch of the Jordan 2018 final on August 2.
