Asante Kotoko defender Rashid Sumaila will be out for at most two weeks, team doctor Kwaku Boateng has confirmed.

The 19-year-old was stretched off the pitch on Sunday during Kotoko's 2-0 win over New Edubiase in the Super Cup match.

Sumaila who just joined the Premier League champions this off-season on loan from Ebusua Dwarfs was feared to have torn a muscle but further tests proved the injury is not that serious.

"Thankfully for Rashid Sumaila, the scan proved his injury is not as serious as initially feared," he told Hot FM.

"He will stay away this week and do some physiotherapy then by next week am sure he will be fine."

Kotoko's infirmary keeps piling with injuries to Ofosu Micky, Richard Yeboah and David Offei.

The Porcupine Warriors open their Premier League defence at home against newly promoted Amidaus Professionals on Sunday.
