Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi produced a sterling performance on his Swiss Super League debut as Saint Gallen beat Lugano on Sunday.

The ex-Ghana U-20 goalkeeper was immediately handed his debut after joining the Swiss side last week from French Ligue II side Sochaux.

Ati-Zigi took advantage of the opportunity and performed magnificently earning praises from the club's management.

"I am extremely happy that we managed it that way," says FCSG sports director Alain Sutter. "Zigi was my absolute dream goal."

Even though the Ghana number two failed to keep a clean sheet, Saint Gallen went on to win 3-1 and keep the chase on Young Boys at the top of the table.

Ati-Zigi replaced Dejan Stonajovic, who left for English championship side Middlesborough in the winter transfer window.

"A really, really good goalie," says ex-YB and -GC manager Ilja Kaenzig, who once worked with the Ghana international.

"With African goalies, the wild component is always included. Not so with Zigi. His incredible bounce, the reflexes, everything was great. I've wondered a few times why no one brought him. It is a bargain for St. Gallen. A very exciting story in prospect."
