Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has claimed that Wayne Rooney should not make the cut for the England national team for Euro2016.
The England skipper is currently recuperating from a knee ligament injury and will miss the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Holland.
Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson has recently indicated that Rooney will feature in his squad, but Le Tissier feels that the Manchester United star should not necessarily be handed an automatic place ahead of the likes of Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge.
He said: "At the moment Wayne would not get in my team. That is based on form.
"You also have to take into consideration the fact that when he's been injured in the past, he's not been great at coming back and hitting form straight away.
"The spell he's been out now is starting to be a little bit extended, and you have to wonder what form he will be in.
"At the moment, based on what I've seen this season, I wouldn't say that he does get in the side.
"Roy is very loyal to his players, and Wayne is his captain. In my world he probably wouldn't get in, but in Roy's world if he's fit I think he'll play."
"I'd have Wayne in the squad, but he wouldn't make the starting XI for me."
