Ghanaian youth defender Daniel Pappoe missed the chance of winning the second edition of the Nextgen Series competition after losing 2-0 to Aston Villa in the final.

The young Blues had knocked out Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal en route to the final.

Pappoe was in central defence when the young Blues emerged 4-3 comprehensive winners over Arsenal to book the final date with Villa who also edged Sporting Lisbon.

Chelsea started on a strong note but two second-half penalties decided the destination of the NextGen Series trophy.

It took the effort of Pappoe to prevent Chelsea from falling behind in the early stages of the game as he employed his long legs to block a Samir Carruthers' powerful shot off the line.

Despite the defeat, Pappoe put up a commanding display in central defence.
