Redknapp: Jordan Ayew will be signed by Premier League club

Experienced Premier League coach Harry Redknapp says Jordan Ayew is the only Aston Villa player who will be signed by a club in the English top-flight next season.

The Ghanaian player has been the stand-out performer for the side which has been widely condemned by its own supporters for not showing fighting spirit in a frustrating season.

Villa are certain to be relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season following their disastrous campaign.

Their 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Bournemouth over the weekend leaves them at the bottom of the table 15 points with five games remaining.

Their relegation to the Championship means several players in Aston Villa’s squad must be sold to cut the huge wage bill of the club.

But the performance of most of the players in this wretched campaign for the crisis-torn Midlands means they are unlikely to be signed by Premier League side.

However, Redknapp a former Tottenham and Portsmouth coach says Ayew is the only player likely to be signed by a Premier League side.

“Jordan Ayew looks a decent player, and I think he’ll get a move away from Villa this summer,” Redknapp told the Telegraph.

“But can you say the same about any of the others? I can’t think of another player in that squad who will get a move back to the Premier League.”

“Which means they could go into the Championship with a squad of players on serious money who are happy to wait out the remaining two, three or four years of their contracts.”

Ayew joined Aston Villa from French side Lorient at the start of the season.
