Ghana defender Samuel Inkoom has rued his inability to play in the country’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo due to injury.

The Ukraine-based midfielder suffered the setback while training on Monday and team doctor Percy Annan has confirmed he will not recover in time for Friday’s showdown at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

The absence of the 21-year-old will be a major blow to the team as he was heavily tipped to replace the experienced John Pantsil on the right-full back position.

"It’s a shame that this muscle tear has ruled me out of this game. I’m really disappointed but that the nature of the career. Injuries hit you sometimes when you least expect it," Inkoom is quoted as saying.

Ghana must win their game against Congo in Group I to keep alive their hopes of reaching the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
